SAQA Verification vs Apostille
Many people confuse SAQA verification with apostille. These are two different processes:
Apostille
Authenticates the document's origin and the signature of the issuing official. Confirms the document is genuine.
SAQA Verification
Evaluates the qualification against the National Qualifications Framework and provides a certificate of evaluation.
Do you need both? It depends on your destination country. Some require only apostille, some require only SAQA verification, and some require both. We can advise based on your specific situation.
The Process
Document Verification
We verify your qualification is suitable for apostille and in good condition. Damaged or laminated documents may need replacement.
Replacement if Needed
If your original is lost or damaged, we can assist with obtaining a replacement from your institution.
DIRCO Submission
Your original qualification is submitted to DIRCO in Pretoria for apostille.
Collection & Delivery
Once apostilled, we collect and deliver your authenticated document.
Important Notes
Protect Your Original
The apostille is attached directly to your original document. If you only have one original, consider:
- Requesting a duplicate from your university first
- Using the notarised copy + High Court apostille route if you must keep your original
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need SAQA verification before apostille?
Not necessarily. SAQA verification is a separate process that evaluates your qualification. Some countries require both, some only one. Check your destination country's requirements or contact us for guidance.
Can I apostille a copy of my degree?
DIRCO requires the original document. If you cannot send your original, you can get a certified copy notarised and then apostilled through the High Court route instead.
My degree is laminated. Is that a problem?
Yes, laminated documents can be problematic. The apostille sticker may not adhere properly. We recommend requesting an unlaminated replacement from your institution.
Can you apostille matric certificates?
Yes, matric certificates (NSC, IEB, and old Senior Certificates) can be apostilled through DIRCO. The same process applies as for university degrees.
How do I get a replacement degree?
Contact your university's registrar office. Most universities can issue replacement certificates (sometimes called "certified copies" or "duplicates"). Processing times vary by institution, typically 1-4 weeks.
