An apostille is an official government certificate that authenticates South African public documents for legal use in over 125 countries under the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961. In South Africa, apostilles are issued by two authorities: the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) for government-issued documents such as birth certificates, police clearances, and educational qualifications; and the South African High Court for notarised documents such as powers of attorney and affidavits. DIRCO apostilles take approximately 1 week to process and cost R1,650, while High Court apostilles take 3 working days and cost R1,650. South Africa has been a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention since 30 April 1995, replacing the older, more complex process of multi-step embassy legalisation with a single internationally recognised certificate.
We handle the entire apostille process for you, from document preparation to DIRCO or High Court submission and collection, making international document authentication simple and stress-free.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) issues apostilles for government-issued public documents. DIRCO apostille is required for documents issued by government departments such as Home Affairs, SAPS, and educational institutions.

The High Court issues apostilles for notarised documents and private documents. This is the faster option for documents that have been notarised by a Notary Public.
Multiple documents? One apostille fee. When several documents are bound for the same destination country, we can notarise them under a single notarial certificate and apostille them together — so you pay one High Court apostille fee rather than per document. For a family emigrating or a business legalising multiple records, this can cut the total cost substantially. Ask for a bundled quote →
